Why Chris Bosh Went To Miami. Truth Uncovered.

From the 'Decision' to the 'Fashion'

When the summer finally rolled around last year, NBA fans around the world stayed glued to their TV’s, laptops and phones in an effort to stay current with the fast paced events of the free agency extravaganza. The imaginations of NBA fans were thrust into overdrive as this was arguably the greatest free agent class in the history of the NBA. In the past, even one star player garnered enough fanfare to satiate the appetites of league watchers and commentators alike. But this year was unlike any that had ever been witnessed.

Chris Bosh, alongside LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Amar’e Stoudamire, was one of the most coveted free agents of the summer of ‘2010’ and although the King’s much maligned ‘Decision’ captured the attention of most, Bosh made his own quiet waves. With a number of teams showing interest in one of the league’s best power forwards, Bosh found himself facing a decision dilemma. The teams that had a shot of recruiting the Dallas-native included Chicago, New York, New Jersey and Miami. All of these teams had their benefits. Chicago had the best roster to compliment Bosh as well as an exciting young point guard to pair him with in Derrick Rose. New York offered some of the best fans in the league as well as the financial flexibility to offer him a max deal (see Amar’e Stoudamire). New Jersey also had the lure of a max-level contract for Bosh, teamed with the deep pockets of a new Russian gazillionare, Mikhail Prokhorov. Finally there was Miami with the promise of great weather, a great city and an even greater market. Choices, choices, choices…

Then it all started to happen, and happen in a hurry. The first big domino fell, with Amar’e choosing to leave Phoenix and go to the big apple. Then Carlos Boozer linked up with a few of his Utah buddies before heading to Chi-town. It was looking fairly clear by this point that Bosh would be headed to Miami to link up with D-Wade. Then the infamous ‘Decision’. In the midst of all the backlash against LeBron, Chris Bosh’s choice to join up with him and Wade in Miami went largely under-analyzed. Many quickly assumed that what drove Bosh to make the move to Miami was his desire to be in a winning environment with his draft mates, olympic teammates and friends. This position became common sense throughout the league and was laid to rest much like the two teams Bosh and James devastated by leaving (R.I.P Cavs & Raptors). However, the emergence of this video today has reopened the inquisition into why Chris Bosh chose Miami. Ladies and gentlemen the results are in and aren’t they just fabulous! I give you Mr. Bosh –

Not to make this about actual basketball or anything but much like his ‘jab-step to face-up jumper’ this well-executed video illustrates precisely why Bosh is the player we love so much. His ‘Magic Johnson-esque’ versatility and natural demeanor in front of the camera convey to me why; 1. He was picked by Maxim to do this shoot and 2.Why he is in Miami and nowhere else. The picturesque beach front home, the fact that he can wear teal in public without a care in the world and all the fresh tropical fruit a man could dream of, I guarantee, would have any Toronto resident, who had the choice, packed and Miami-bound in no time.

Exactly what Bosh hoped to achieve with this video I am yet unaware, but maybe after another few months we will fully understand that as well. For now, one commentator put it better than I ever could.

“Then again, maybe Bosh just wants Maxim readers to know that he’s a fun-loving guy. Why else would he stretch his arms out in displays of wonder and joy? Or peer out over his sunglasses while resting his arms on his knee? Or give other guys advice on women like he’s in an infomercial for a dating website? Or stand in an extremely shallow pool while splashing water at the camera? Etc. ad infinitum.” Kelly Dwyer
